How Cellular Phones Work
Science and technology has made our life very simple and easy. With the evolution of technology most of our jobs are performed within no time. A cell phone is a greatest development of technology. It has not only made our life simpler but it also has connected us to the whole world with the help of a small device.
A mobile phone can be regarded as a very high-tech radio based device. It’s basic structure resembles that of a walkie-talkie and a CB radio. But we must not forget that CB radio or walkie-talkie is device of a simplex system in which one person at a time can talk or listen.
A mobile phone is a dual mode device in that a user and talk and listen simultaneously. A mobile phone in essence and give and go with a signal at the same time. There are two different channels or frequencies that allow information to flow in two directions at once. You can communicate on 1664 channels in a mobile phone but in CB radio only 40 channels are used.
The slang term for a cellular phone is a cell. It’s technical term is actually mobile phone. Its working protocol is based on division of an area. The whole network area of the provider is divided into small cells or areas. In this network each cell or area has an antenna. Cell phone networks have distributed broadcasting and listening towers all over the place. As cell phones enter a service area, they ping a local tower and initiate message transfer in that location of the network. Thus it is truly known as a cellular phone.
A cell phone retrieves its unique code from its service provider. The code embedded into a SIM card identifies your mobile phone from all others across the globe. This uniquely identifies your property. There are quite a complex set of events that unfolds every time you boot up your cell phone.
When you boot up your cell phone, the internal programs send out pulses to the mobile network in order to find in return a uniquely identified cellular provider within range. This control channel can be a special frequency, which is used for the purpose of talking. Whenever the phone can’t find any control frequency it sends out a no service message.
Cell phones all run on different frequencies. The vast majority dial up the proper frequency then match a particular signal to your SIM card to allow the phone to work. Then the GPS system and all of it’s related programs can track down your phone, locate it’s exactly location, and let’s you know where your phone is located. After receiving a call this office searches into the database to locate your phone and identifies the cell you are using.
