The whole network area of the provider is divided into small cells or areas. In this network each cell or area has an antenna. Cell phone networks have distributed broadcasting and listening towers all over the place. As cell phones enter a service area, they ping a local tower and initiate message transfer in that location of the network. Thus it is truly known as a cellular phone.
